Mayors from all over Europe met online on the 22nd of March at 11 AM CET to share the reasons and the methodology that brought them to support StopGlobalWarming,eu, the European Citizens Initiative for a carbon pricing in the European Union (which can be signed until the 22nd of July 2021 on https://stopglobalwarming.eu). The event started with a focus on the instruments of participatory democracy available for citizens, and then a virtual tour across the European Union with mayors who will share their best practices in terms of the fight against climate change and the urgency of a European wide mobilization.

During the event the organisers of Stopglobalwarming.eu and EUMANS presented a local resolution template and technological zero-budget resources to help Municipalities to inform citizens about the possibility of signing the European Citizens' Initiative also via the municipality's website and institutional spaces and through special actions to be carried on the occasion of Earth Day on the 22nd of April. [The methodology was presented by EUMANS and StopGlobalWarming.eu during 2020 Regions Week and featured on European Citizens Initiatives Official Blog by ECAS]
The mayors joined the cities of Florence, Rome, Turin, Milano, and over 70 Italian municipalities that launched the network in February 2021.

MORE INFORMATION ON "MAYORS TO STOPGLOBALWARMING.EU"
The event aims at boosting the civic and pragmatic push for sustainability and it is organised as part of the activities promoted by the EarthDay.org organisation, which is among the supporters of StopGlobalWarming.eu.
A push that often starts at local and regional level, helping communities to keep their focus on environmental priorities in a very difficult moment. We are convinced that it is the responsibility of Mayors to increase the reach of institutionally-based participatory democracy initiatives, starting from what is guaranteed by the European Treaties: the European Citizens’ Initiative. Using this instrument, the signatures of one million European citizens can oblige the European Commission to take a stand on a specific proposal.
Stopglobalwarming.eu is one of these European Citizens’ Initiatives. The proposal asks for a minimum European price to be put on CO2 emissions, and for the revenue to be used for the ecological transition and to lower taxes on workers. The deadline to achieve the goal of 1 million signatures is 22nd of July.
Stopglobalwarming.eu backs the idea of carbon pricing, as suggested by 27 Nobel Prize winners. Among the supporters there are Mogens Lykketoft, President of the UN General Assembly during the Paris Agreement negotiation, Navy Pillai, Former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and hundreds of artists and intellectuals
