My Voice My Choice’s European Citizens Initiative was launched on April 24th, 2024, and has collected almost 600,000 signatures. If it achieves one million signatures in seven EU Member States, the European Commission will be formally asked to submit a proposal to financially support Member States. This way, all countries in Europe would be able to perform safe termination of pregnancies for anyone who still lacks access to safe and legal abortion.
Even though the law allows signatures to be collected for one year in order to reach the threshold, the MVMC movement aims at doing it by the end of 2024. It would be an even stronger signal to the EU institutions, that will be eventually compelled to answer to this proposal, clearly backed by a wide grassroots public opinion.
Eumans strongly supports MVMC’s initiative and is helping collecting signatures all over Europe. Given that September 28th, 2024 is the International Safe Abortion Day, My Voice My Choice and its partners are holding happenings, events, and signature collection all over Europe. Here, you can find some tips on how to get involved in the campaign, like:
- the guidelines for ECI Paper signature collection (be careful: paper signatures are limited to people having a nationality corresponding to the physical place where their signatures are collected);
- access to the materials for organising an event on your own, to support the campaign;
