Martina Oppelli Endorses the Slovenian Referendum on Euthanasia

On June 9th, 2024, together with the European elections, Slovenians will vote for a consultative referendum on voluntary End-of-Life assistance methods

Martina Oppelli, architect, is an Italian citizen of the Slovenian community in Trieste and she has been quadriplegic for 10 years. In 2023, she asked for end-of-life assistance as secured by the Cappato/Antoniani sentence 242/2019, but the Italian Region Friuli Venezia-Giulia declined.

She can only move her face, mouth, and tongue; however, since her survival does not depend on medical machines, assisted dying was not provided.

Eumans proposes a petition to the European Parliament to guarantee the right to voluntary assisted dying in the European Union. We ask for its inclusion in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, an EU legislation enforced by the European Court of Human Rights, and the convening of a European Citizens’ Assembly to discuss possible measures to approach the issues.

P.S.
If you are Slovenian, this is time to vote YES to the referendum and legalize euthanasia!
