Citizens Assemblies and Climate Emergency: the case of Durham - EUMANS SpeakEasy - 11/3 - 6 PM CET

On the 11th of March 2021 at 6 PM CET the EUMANS Speakeasy Weekly Date will explore an interesting initiative from the United Kingdom.

Becca Massey-Chase (Co-Deputy Head of IPPR’s Environmental Justice Commission) will share with the participants in the meeting how citizens’ climate juries (akin to citizens assemblies) are taking place in UK at local level. And how one of the first ones has recommended raising carbon tax as well as minimum wage.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the participants.

This conversation is particularly interesting because it connects with three of the main initiatives on which EUMANS is active: the European Citizens Initiative StopGlobalwarming.eu (that can be signed before the 22nd of July on https://stopglobalwarming.eu), the European Citizens Assembly Manifesto promoted in collaboration with Citizens Take Over Europe, and the Italian initiative PoliticiPerCaso, a bill of popular initiative to institutionalise sortition based citizens Assemblies in Italy, starting from the climate emergency.
