The International Criminal Court is an independent institution for international justice that prosecutes the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. Its establishment in 1998 was a historic achievement for humanity, but today the Court is under attack more than ever.
Several countries, Authoritarian regimes, illiberal democracies, are trying to undermine its independence and hinder its global mission of justice. Russia wants to arrest the judges that have indicted Putin, while the sanctions imposed by the United States are an attack against its legitimacy, its role in ending impunity for politicians, and itsindependence.
International institutions must not be weakened by political pressure and illegitimate, or illegal sanctions. This is why Eumans has launched the initiative “Defend the International Criminal Court” through the activation of the so-called “blocking Statute” by the European Commission to support ICC partners and supporters.

What we ask
- APPLY THE EU “BLOCKING STATUTE” AND PROTECT THE COURT
We ask the European Commission to immediately apply the EU Blocking Statute to protect the International Criminal Court from U.S. sanctions. The “Blocking Statute” is a EU law that prevents European companies from complying with extraterritorial sanctions imposed by countries outside Europe. The norm forbids EU businesses from following foreign laws that would impact legitimate activities in Europe, thus protecting the Court from the sanctions allowing everyone to continue supporting it without legal risks. - NOMINATE THE ICC AS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FOR 2026
We invite people of goodwill that believe in super partes justice, starting from those that formally can, to support the candidature of the International Criminal Court for Nobel Peace Prize for 2026, alredy submitted in January.
“In numerous contexts, the ICC serves as the sole credible institution offering hope to millions of victims, embodying the international community’s commitment to accountability and the fight against impunity. It is therefore imperative to shield the Court from any external measures that could undermine its capacity to deliver justice.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT
The International Criminal Court was established in 1998 and started its activities in 2002, as the first permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals responsible of the most serious crimes that threaten global peace and security, such as genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. Its creation represents a historic step toward global justice, a concrete sign of the international community’s commitment to fighting impunity and promoting human rights.
Over the years, the International Criminal Court has achieved numerous successes, including the conviction of several war criminals and the establishment of legal precedents for addressing international crimes. The Court has also directly involved victimes in its proceedings and has contributed to ensuring that those responsible for heinous crimes cannot escape justice, regardless of their position or power.
The Court has always had friends and enemies, recently some illiberal democracies, Russia and the United States have all attacked, in different ways the pursuit of international justice. In particular two non State parties have targeted the ICC: Russia, which has condamned the judges that have indicted Putin, issuing arrest warrans, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on its officials as well as groups that collaborate with the Court to hinder its work.
Destabilising the international world legal order gives the message that impunity is tolerated also for the worst crimes at the world level. Let’s defend international justice!
