On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Eumans, a pan-European movement of popular initiative, joins the demonstrations organized by the Ukrainian community in solidarity with the people under attack.
With a presence at the rallies in Brussels (Sunday 22 February 1:00 p.m., Place Albertine), Milan (Sunday 22 February march starting from Piazza XXV Aprile at 2:30 p.m.), Naples (Sunday 22 February march starting from Piazza Dante at 11:30 a.m.), Paris ( Saturday 21 February place de la République at 2p.m.), Eumans is participating to relaunch its appeal for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and to urge the Commission to defend the International Criminal Court against the attack of Trump’s sanctions and the “sentences” issued by Russian courts following the arrest warrant issued against Vladimir Putin for crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine.
Marco Cappato and Djémila Boulasha, Co-Presidents of Eumans, and Lorenzo Mineo, Treasurer, stated:
“We express our closeness to the Ukrainian people, victims of relentless and violent attacks against civilian targets. To honor this resistance, we once again call on the European Union to accelerate Ukraine’s accession process to the EU and to activate all the mechanisms at its disposal to defend the rule of law and international justice, such as the so-called Blocking Statute.
Eumans’ appeal has been endorsed by two Nobel Prize laureates (the Tunisian League for Human Rights and the physicist Geoffrey Hinton) and calls on Ursula von der Leyen to neutralize, within European territory, the sanctions imposed on the Court by third countries — Russia and the United States.
The European Parliament and the Council have already deliberated in this regard; it is now up to the Commission to adopt all the necessary measures to protect companies and individuals targeted by foreign sanctions. While economic support for Ukrainian resistance remains essential, equally concrete attention must be devoted to upholding our own rules.”
