Stopglobalwarming.eu – Palermo (Italy) is the first city council to stand with European citizens for carbon pricing

Palermo Call Europe!

Palermo City Council voted in favour of a local motion against global warming promoted by the European Citizens Initiative StopGlobalWarming.eu.

The city council of Palermo has unanimously approved the Motion* against climate change proposed by the There are Rights! Committee and forwarded to the European Commission.

On this political act Marco Cappato, promoter of the appeal for the collection of one million signatures throughout Europe has declared:

“Palermo City Council has written a great page today, with the unanimously approved motion in support of the European Citizens’ Initiative StopGlobalWarming.eu.

We propose to shift taxes from jobs to polluting emissions, setting a minimum price in Europe for CO2 emissions: this concerns apparently a distant problem, such as climate change, which however has a devastating impact also at local level, as the record temperatures and tragic floods of the past weeks have shown in Palermo.

Thanks to the hard work of the Committee There are rights! with Gaetano D’Amico and Alberto Mangano, today a strong and clear message to national and European politics has arrived from Palermo City Council.

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the City Councillors who have approved this measure, making Palermo, also with the support of the Mayor, Professor Leoluca Orlando, the symbol of this collection of signatures. I hope that from now on, and for the months to come, there will be many other Municipalities willing to follow the path outlined.

A big thank you also to Pino Apprendi and Francesca Turano Campello for the signature collection campaign that continues in the city and on the website www.stopglobalwarming.eu”.

Palermo invites the citizens of Europe to mobilize by signing the ECI initiative on the official website https://stopglobalwarming.eu. We are all citizens of Europe.
