I support the candidacy of the International Criminal Court for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize 

The International Criminal Court was set up in 1998 to bring to justice those responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity genocide and the crime of aggression. Its jurisdiction is recognized by 120 countries, can be triggered by a decision of the UN Security Council and can target Heads of States and Governments.

It’s a super partes organ dedicated to fight impunity for the most serious violations of International Humanitarian Law.

The Court is now facing unprecedented political attacks from authoritarian governments and powerful states seeking to weaken its independence if not dismantle it altogether. 

While it is necessary to act politically to defend the ICC activating all possible institutional instruments, supporting its candidacy for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will send a powerful symbolic message to the International Community: international justice is a necessary means to pursue a sustainable and durable peace, those who defend it deserve the support of goodwill people from all over the world both in concrete deeds and public statements.

The candidacy was formally submitted in January and is supported by:

• Tunisian League for Human Rights (LTDH) – Nobel Peace Prize
• Geoffrey Hinton – Nobel Prize in Physics
• Richard J. Roberts – Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
• Giorgio Parisi – Nobel Prize in Physics
• Oleksandra Matviichuk (Center for Civil Liberties) – Nobel Peace Prize

Support the nomination of the International Criminal Court for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

We invite citizens, organisations, academics, Nobel laureates, parliamentarians and all those eligible to nominate candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize to publicly support the candidature of the International Criminal Court.

Recognising the ICC with the Nobel Peace Prize would affirm that justice is an essential pillar of lasting peace and that defending international law is one of the greatest responsibilities of our time.

Why the ICC deserves the Nobel Peace Prize

Since beginning its work in 2002, the International Criminal Court has represented hope for millions of victims who would otherwise never obtain justice.

The Court has investigated and prosecuted perpetrators of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, established historic legal precedents, strengthened victims’ participation in international justice and reinforced the principle that impunity cannot be accepted.

Although it possesses neither an army nor political power, the ICC has become one of the strongest symbols of the international community’s commitment to accountability and the rule of law. Its work contributes not only to justice for past crimes but also to preventing future atrocities by affirming that those responsible can be held accountable.

At a moment when international law is increasingly challenged, recognising the Court with the Nobel Peace Prize would reaffirm that peace cannot exist without justice.
